The National Park Service preserves Saint Croix Island International Historic site (IHS) as a monument to the beginning of the United States and Canada. The site is focused on establishing a quiet atmosphere of respect meant to promote contemplation of the heroism and suffering of the French colonists in 1604-05. A short walk to the interpretive shelter looking onto the estuary and St. Croix Island is recommended.
Up Close Tours offers a tour of the St. Croix River including seal watching around St. Croix Island, an explanation of how the tides work, a history of the first French settlement and lobster trapping. Tours must be booked in advance with a six person maximum. $40.00 per adult and $20.00
